Interoperability services for health data

We bring interoperability in healthcare, enabling secure access to patients’ data residing in multiple systems and healthcare providers. Health care professionals expect all stored patient data to be accessible at the point of care so that they can make useful queries and receive 360 information about their patients’ health status. However patient data such as medication lists, lab tests, hospital admissions, discharges as well as biodata streamed from medical devices and telehealth systems, are fragmented, non-standardized and stored in proprietary formats. HiSpin builds upon established standards such as HL7-FHIR, communication protocols and message formats and offers solutions for standardization and structuring of health data leading the way for connected health and improved personalized care.

Our experience

HiTrackin software enables registration and monitoring of corneal transplants and offers quality control in transplantations through traceability of detailed information all the way from the donor to the specimen and to the recipient, and vice versa. It has been developed by HiSpin for the eye bank of AHEPA hospital in Thessaloniki, Greece and runs both on desktop and mobile devices. The application features also smart dashboards for extraction of statistics and reports. HiTrackin issues Single European Codes (SEC) for specimen labelling, in addition to local coding schemes, making it possible to expand and interact with systems across Europe.

WELMO is an EU project that develops a wearable vest with integrated miniaturized sensors that record electrical impedance tomography (EIT) and sound signals for real-time evaluation of respiratory conditions. The HiSpin team has designed the architecture of WELMO, developed the data management system based on established standards and developed the Android-based Patient App connecting to the vest and other external medical devices.

CoCross integrates measurements from multiple devices in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) offering real-time review and analysis of chest sounds and imaging for COVID-19 patients. HiSpin has designed, developed and tested the platform in four ICUs in Greece (G. Papanikolaou Hospital, Evaggelismos Hospital, Alexandroupolis Univ. Hospital, AHEPA Univ. Hospital) and in one pulmonology clinic in Portugal (Centro Hospitalar e Universitário de Coimbra). A unified and annotated database has been generated that can be further exploited for COVID-19 research.

HISPIN’s founders have more than 20 years of experience in research and innovation in health data exchange and personalized health solutions, through their participation in more than 30 European and National research projects both as coordinators and technology providers.
